Gene Volkman, 84 - April 22, 2009
Gene Kenneth Volkman, 84, of Gothenburg, died Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services were held on Saturday, April 18, at the First Presbyterian Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Matt Coplen officiating. Burial took place at the Greenwood Cemetery at Lexington.
Volkman was born June 22, 1924, to Emeal and Edna (Uhlig) Volkman at Eustis. He attended school at Eustis High.
He served his country in the Army from January of 1945 to December of 1946.
On Nov. 23, 1952, he was united in marriage to Betty Wolfe at Lexington. The couple resided at Gothenburg.
Volkman worked as a farmer and enjoyed woodworking, fishing and gardening, according to family members.
He was a life member of the American Legion and served as a deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Hereford.
Volkman was preceded in death by: his granddaughter, Kaylee Ann Volkman; his father, Emeal Volkman; his mother, Edna Volkman; a brother, Burdette; brother-in-law, Willard Adkins; son-in-law, Kenneth Wolf; sister-in-law; Marylyn Volkman; nephew, Gary Adkins.
?Survivors include: his wife of 56 years, Betty; his daughters—Jeanette Wolf and Darla (LaMonte) Schlake of Gothenburg; his sons—Kenneth (Beverly) Volkman, and David (Kathy) Volkman of Omaha; 23 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Adkins.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church and the Senior Center.
