Robert (Bob) Peterson, 84 - November 30, 2012
Robert “Bob” Rellen Peterson, 84, of Gothenburg died Friday, Nov. 30, 2012, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.Memorial services will be conducted on Thursday, Dec. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Interment will be at the Peckham Cemetery at Gothenburg.
A book signing will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Peterson was born Feb. 6, 1928, near Brady, the son of Clarence H. and Mable I. (Tarr) Peterson.
He grew up near Brady and attended Lincoln County District 74 (Union School). He graduated from Gothenburg High in 1945.
Peterson served his country as an electronic technician with the United States Coast Guard from 1945 to 1948, and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1951.
On June 6, 1953, he married Marjorie Paustain at the First United Methodist Church in Lincoln. The couple had resided at San Antonio, TX, Roland Park, KS, Baltimore, MD, and Gothenburg, where they spent their last five years living at Stone Hearth Estates.
?Peterson was a member of the Methodist Church and NARFE.
?He enjoyed gardening, travel, cooking, reading non-fiction and pets, according to family members.
?Peterson was preceded in death by: his parents, Clarence and Mable; his wife, Marjorie in 2011; an infant brother, Gerald Peterson in 1926; brother, Harold V. Peterson in 1995; son-in-law, Jon Custer in 2004.
Survivors include: his two sons—David (Carol) Peterson of Upperco, MD, and Gregory Peterson of Baltimore, MD; his daughter, Linda Custer of Linthicum Heights, MD; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, 1401 Lake Ave., Gothenburg, NE 69138, and the Gothenburg Public Library, 1104 Lake Ave., Gothenburg, NE 69138.
