Gary Philben, 53 - May 13, 2009
Gary Duane Philben of Ainsworth, 53, died Saturday, May 2, 2009, at his home.
Graveside memorial services were held on Thursday, May 7, at the Ainsworth Cemetery with the Rev. Gary Graesser officiating. Tributes were addressed by Ken Galas and Randy Voss.
Philben was born Jan. 27, 1956, to Duane and Marilyn (Hollingsworth) Philben. At the age of three, the family moved to Ainsworth where he lived the remainder of his life.
He graduated from Ainsworth High School in 1974, where he participated in football and basketball. He scored over 1,000 points in his high school career. In the summer months, he enjoyed playing Midget and Junior Legion baseball and, after schooling, played softball for many summers, according to family members.
?In March of 1984, Philben and his father began Philben Electric Motor Sales and Service, where he was self-employed for 25 years following his father’s death.
?Philben was united in marriage to Gayla Richmond on Sept. 13, 2006, at Winner, SD.
?He was a nature lover, enjoyed the outdoors and took frequent drives around the countryside, said family members. Sports being important in his life, he was an avid Nebraska Husker fan and was also interested in his nephews’ and nieces’ activities and their accomplishments as well.
Survivors include: his wife, Gayla; his mother, Marilyn; sisters—Lori (Craig) Haake and Iree McNally (Dick Schipporeit); nieces—Jordyn Haake and Karlie McNally (Chad McCoy); nephews—Landen Haake and Jed (Melinda) McNally; great-nephew, Dylan McCoy; step-children—Dori Carson, Nadine (Mark) Prososki and Breah Anne (Kyle) Richmond; step-grandchildren—Brendon, Coy, Ayden, Konner and Kadince; brother-in-law, Nic Mailo; nieces—Lauren and Jairo Rodriquez; nephew, Michael Mailo; numerous other relatives.
A memorial has been established and suggested to the family.
