Goldie Bartling, 92 - September 25, 2012

Goldie Hendershot Bartling, 92, of Hebron passed away Tuesday Sept. 25, 2012, at the Blue Valley Nursing Home in Hebron.
A memorial service will be conducted at the First Community Church of Hebron on Sunday, Oct. 7, at 2 p.m. Following the path of doing for others, like her husband, she requested that her body be donated to the medical center for the training of young doctors.
Bartling was born Oct. 7, 1919, at Mullen, to Eva McMillan Hendershot and O.P. Hendershot. She grew up and attended schools in Hebron and Deshler, graduating from Hebron High School.
On Oct. 17, 1937, she was united in marriage to Fred W. Bartling. To this union, seven children were born. Her husband passed away in 1996.
Bartling’s main focus and attention throughout her life were on family and children, said family members. In addition to raising her large family, she was an active adult with the Hebron Volunteer Firemen’s Auxiliary and the local Girl Scout organization as well as working for the school system supervising children on the playground and on school buses.
She was known among her community for her divinity candy, her homemade bread and her sewing skills, according to family members. Most of her children’s clothes were home-tailored as she loved using her creative skills to make nice clothing.
Bartling was preceded in death by: her parents, O.P. and Eva; her husband, Fred; a son and one grandson; a brother and a sister.
Survivors include: her daughters—Bev Scholz of Centerville, IN, Bonnie (Keith) Motley of Hebron, Nancy (Lynn) Sackschewsky of Fort Wayne, IN, and Chris (Mike) Wolff of Gothenburg; her sons—Bob (Debra) Bartling of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Glenn (Jane) Bartling of Deshler; 18 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchilden; family members totaling 94 descendants.
