Lois Rieker, 84 - September 09, 2012Lois Elaine Rieker, 84, of Gothenburg, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2012, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Services will take place at the Zion Lutheran Church on Wednesday, Sept. 12, at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Don Wilken and Jo Anderson, PMA, officiating. Interment will follow at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Rieker was born Sept. 14, 1927, at Eustis, daughter of Arthur and Helen (Keller) Hueftle.
She was baptized and confirmed in the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Eustis, and graduated from Eustis High School with the Class of 1945.
Rieker attended Normal College in Kearney to train as a teacher. She then taught one year in a one-room school near Johnson Lake and two years southwest of Cozad.
On Sept. 18, 1949, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Rieker at Eustis. To this union, two children were born.
She and her husband moved north of Gothenburg in 1950 to begin a lifetime of farming.
Rieker enjoyed growing flowers, baking and scrapbooking as well as involvement with her children’s activities, according to family members.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church where she served as a Sunday school and confirmation teacher, sang with the church choir, and was active with the Lutheran Church women.
Rieker also enjoyed being a member of two pinochle clubs, was a 4-H Club leader and a member of the Hilltop ladies coffee club.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Arthur and Helen; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Gilbert and Nadine Rieker.
Survivors include: her husband, Kenneth Rieker of Gothenburg, ; her daughter, Lorri (Dick Oddo) Rieker of Lawrence, KS; a son, Jim (Tami) Rieker of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Ansel O’Doniel; a step-grandson, Brandon Swartz; step-granddaughter, Alyssa Swartz; two brothers—Marvin (Pat) Hueftle of Omaha and Alan (Delores) Hueftle of Eustis; sister, Arlene (LaVern) Ostendorf of Wayne; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
