Doris Bauman, 86 - August 29, 2012Doris Ethel Ann Bauman, 86, of Gothenburg passed away at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012.
Services will be conducted at the Evangelical Free Church on Saturday, Sept. 1, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
A visitation will be at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Friday, Aug. 31, from 1 to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Bauman was born on Nov. 5, 1925, and grew up on a farm near Walton and graduated from Walton High School. In 1947 she moved to Lincoln to attend Lincoln School of Commerce.
On June 21, 1947, she was united in marriage to Donald Richard Bauman at the Trinity Lutheran Church near Walton. To this union, four children were born. The couple were married for 65 years.
In 1948, she moved to Gothenburg where she resided the rest of her life.
Bauman was employed at the National Bank of Commerce in Lincoln and at the Sewing Basket in Gothenburg. She was a member of numerous bridge clubs and a weaver’s guild.
She was a beloved wife and mother, and loved sewing, quilting, knitting and crafts, said family members. She also enjoyed playing poker, bridge and 21.
Bauman was also a talented weaver, according to the family, and collected antique Fiesta Ware dishes and pretty napkins.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Ernest and Ethel Retzlaff; a brother, Dale Retzlaff.
Survivors include: her husband, Donald R. Bauman of Gothenburg; two daughters—Susan (Dan) Malloy and Georgia (Steve) Reeves; two sons—Mitchel (Cindy) Bauman and Joel (Kim) Bauman; a brother, Merle Retzlaff; sister, Donna Jahde; grandchildren—Jeremy Baeckel, Micah, Patrick and Tiani Reeves, Zachary (Azra), Abbie (Chris Signore), Jessica and Harlee Bauman, Colton, Carly and Cameron Bauman; great-grandchildren—Brandon and Courtney Baeckel and Zara Bauman; numerous nephews, nieces and extended family and friends.
