Doris Brosius, 91 - August 26, 2012Doris Agnes Brosius, 91, of Brady passed away Sunday, Aug. 26, 2012, at Lincoln.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, Aug. 30, from 1 to 7 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg with family members present from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Rosary will follow at 7:30 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel.
Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted on Friday, Aug. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, 1915 Ave. J, Gothenburg, with the Rev. Don O’Brien officiating. Interment be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Brosius was born Feb. 6, 1921, at Geneva, daughter of William John and Marcella Kathryn (Sullivan) Marson. She grew up at Geneva and attended school graduating from Geneva High School.
She moved to the Sandhills as a young lady where she taught school at a one-room school house in Gandy. It was at Gandy where she met her husband Bernard.
On Feb. 22, 1941, she was united in marriage to Bernard Brosius at Geneva. The couple moved to Brady Island where they lived and ranched all of their lives.
Brosius was a busy ranch wife and mother to their five children, and made many meals and pies for the cowboys and ranch hands.
She was an avid member of the Catholic Altar Society, the Red Hat Society, the Brady Card Club and TOPS and served as a 4-H leader.
Brosius enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading them books, said family members. She also enjoyed music, dancing, painting and needlepoint. She volunteered at Saint Peter’s Catholic School in Lincoln and at her daughter Corrine’s sixth-grade class in Gothenburg.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Bernard Benedict Brosius; her daughter, Corrine Auld; parents, William and Marcella; a sister, Kathryn Murray; brothers-in-law—Don Miller, Jerry Roth, Vincent Domenico and Phil Breen; sisters-in-law—Donna Brosius, Irene Brosius, Mary Brosius and Helen Breen.
Survivors include: her two sons—Michael (Kathy) Brosius of North Platte and John (Debby) Brosius of Rossmoor, CA; her two daughters—Marsha (Jim) Hecox of Gothenburg and Denise (Roger) Meeks of Lincoln; son-in-law, William Auld of Gothenburg; seven granddaughters—Lisa (Jay) Lake, Rebecca (Erich) Hohl, Michaela (Mike Donohoe) Brosius, Tina (David) Ramirez, Anne Auld, Elizabeth (Chad) Krings and Morgan Meeks; three grandsons—John Hecox, Sam Auld and Barret Meeks; seven great-grandchildren—Jacob, Lauren, John and Natalie Hohl, Connor and Mason Lake, and Garrett Krings; five sisters—Wilma Miller of Geneva, Wilmetta Roth, Frances Domenico and Mary Ann Marson, all of Denver, CO, and Victoria (Frank) Mulvey of San Diego, CA; three brothers-in-laws—Vernon (Karen) Brosius and Kenneth Brosius, all of Stapleton, and Bill Brosius of Colorado Springs, CO; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to Our Lady of Good Counsel, 1915 Ave. J, Gothenburg, NE 69138, and the Brady Community Library.
