Edward Stevens, 91 - August 21, 2012Edward Peter Stevens, 91, of Gothenburg died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012, at his home north of Gothenburg.
Services will take place at the American Lutheran Church on Saturday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Tom Wilson and Lonna Grabenstein, PMA, officiating. Interment will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
A visitation will be conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Friday, Aug. 24, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Stevens was born Dec. 19, 1920, to Peter E. and Mary A. Fickenscher Stevens at Gothenburg. He attended schools in Gothenburg.
He served his country during World War II in the Pacific Theatre as a member of the 810th military police company in Hawaii for three years. Following his discharge from the army, he became a farmer and rancher in the Gothenburg area.
On May 26, 1946, he married Luella E. Teel of Farnam. The couple made their home northeast of Gothenburg.
Stevens was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church and the American Lutheran Church, serving on church council and the building committee when the churches merged. He was also a school board member when District 100-R was formed.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, said family members.
Stevens was preceded in death by: his parents, Peter and Mary; brothers—Albert and Richard Stevens; sisters—Rosina Franzen, Marie Elliston, Tillie Johnson and Katherine Vieselmeyer; son-in-law, Bruce Tomrdle; great-grandson, Mickale Rosner.
Survivors include: his two sons—Kenneth (Barbara) of Brady and Ronald (Connie Jo) of Gothenburg; two daughters—Kathleen (Terry) Williams of McCook and Jacqueline Tomrdle of Colorado Springs, CO; a brother, Orvin (Shirley) Stevens of Gothenburg; brother-in-law, Paul Johnson of Gothenburg; four grandsons, six granddaughters, 13 great-grandsons and 10 great-granddaughters; numerous nephews and nieces.
