Stanley (Butch) Brooks, 71 - June 08, 2012
Stanley “Butch” Brooks, 71, of Perry, IA, formerly of Gothenburg, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at the Perry Lutheran Home.
Services were conducted on Monday, June 11, at Perry.
Brooks was born June 22, 1940, to Marvin and Audrey Brooks in Gothenburg. He grew up at Gothenburg attending Gothenburg Public School with the Class of 1958.
He served with the U.S. Navy for three years as a helicopter mechanic.
In 1960, he married Mary Alice Hall in Alabama. To this union, two children were born.
After being discharged from the Navy, he and his wife moved to Gothenburg where he was employed with Genuine Parts and Wheelers Farm Supply.
Brooks was active with the Gothenburg Jaycees and was a past officer.
He and his family resided at Cozad, Lexington and York and, in 1968, moved to Perry where he was employed with Andersen-Erickson Dairy of Des Moines, IA, until retiring in 1995.
As a teen, he enjoyed life and fast cars, said family members. He was well known for his drag racing on the Platte River bridge in his parent’s yellow station wagon. Tinkering with cars was his life-long hobby and there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix. He could always be depended upon if needed and was always available to friends and family.
?A strong work ethic was ingrained in him from his parents and he lived up to that challenge, according to family members. He was a hard and conscientious worker. Due to a battle with multiple sclerosis, he was forced to retire earlier than planned. With the help of his wife, Mary, he was able to stay at home for several years before moving to Perry Lutheran Home.
Brooks was preceded in death by: his parents, Marvin and Audrey; his wife’s parents, Aubrey and Leaner Hall; his son, Dwayne, in April 2011; a sister, Marilyn Heuer; brothers-in-law—Ron Hampson and Ken Heuer.
Survivors include: his wife, Mary; his daughter, Jana; grandson, Anthony; a brother, Bill (Jane) of Coeur d’ Alene, ID; sisters—Jane Sheets and Judi (Cal) Frey of Gothenburg; numerous nieces and nephews.
Condolences may be sent to: Stan Brooks Family, P.O. Box 375, Perry, IA 50220.
