Henry Schilling, 96 - July 04, 2011
Henry Carl Schilling, 96, of Elwood died Monday, July 4, 2011, at the Plum Creek Care Center in Lexington.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at Reynolds-Love Funeral home in Lexington with Daryl Wyatt officiating. Inurnment will be held prior to the memorial service in the Elwood Cemetery.
Schilling was born Dec. 13, 1914, to Henry and Wilhelmina (Ubele) Schilling at their homestead in Gosper County. He went to a rural school in Dawson County.
He married Lois Catherine Kolb on March 14, 1936. The marriage was blessed with three sons and two daughters. They lived and worked on the family farm all their married lives of 69 years.
Schilling enjoyed being on the farm with his family. In his younger years he planted and harvested crops and raised cattle. He was baptized as one of Jehovah Witnesses on May 14, 1944. He valued his association with the Christian congregation at the Kingdom Hall in Lexington and enjoyed sharing his faith with others.
Schilling was preceded in death by: his parents; his wife Lois in 2005; a daughter Nancy Schroeder in 2004; a son Lee Schilling of Platte City, MO, in February 2011; a sister, Martha Wolf and her husband John of Eustis; a brother, Fred and wife Mildred of Elwood; and an infant daughter, Ruth Ann.
Survivors include: two sons—Ron and wife Joyce Schilling of Elwood and Jim Schilling of Savannah, MO; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nephew Lon Schilling of Wallkill, NY; niece Janet Haas of Gothenburg; daughter-in-law Veleta Schilling of Platte City, MO.
Memorials are suggested to the Elwood Senior Center or the donor’s choice.
