Monroe “Monty” Sholund, 86, of Minnesota, formerly of Gothenburg, died Sunday, May 13, 2007.
Memorial services were held May 18 at the Wayzata Evangelical Free Church at Plymouth, MN.
Sholund was born on Aug. 4, 1920, at Gothenburg. He graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1938.
He then graduated from Multnomah School of the Bible in 1943, Wheaton College in 1947 and the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa, in 1961.
Sholund began missionary work in the Congo beginning in 1947 where he taught at the Bible Institute and initiated the building of Tandala Mission Hospital.

He moved to South Africa and taught biblical studies at the State University of Johannesburg, SA, and founded Rosebank Bible College at Johannesburg, being the principal until 1982, when he moved back to the United States to Maple Plain, MN.
Sholund also founded the Village School of the Bible, now based in Minnetonka, MN.
He taught at more than 30 locations around the United States, Canada and Alaska, touching many lives, both students and friends, and was always a great encourager, said family members.
His life was a long ministry marked by his love for the Lord, His word and for the people, according to family members.
Sholund was preceded in death by: his brother, Milford; a grandson, Jason.
Survivors include: his wife, Doris; a daughter, Rebecca “Becky” (Bruce) Anderson of Maple Plain; grandchildren—Ryan and Julie Anderson; sisters—Veola Nordin of Gothenburg, Inez Geisler of Solvang, CA.
