Opal Ogorsolka, 90 - June 20, 2007
Opal E. Ogorsolka, 90, of Cozad, died Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at Gothenburg.
Rosary was recited on Thursday, June 14, and Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday at Christ the King Catholic Church of Cozad with the Rev. Don O’Brien as celebrant. Burial was at the Cozad Cemetery.
Ogorsolka was born Jan. 17, 1917, north of Cozad, to Wyrthy and Delia Griffis Bartlett. She attended rural Dawson County schools.
On Feb. 22, 1939, she was united in marriage to Vincent Ogorsolka. The couple lived on a farm site southwest of Lexington, and in 1943 moved to an acreage on the east edge of Cozad.
She worked babysitting and cleaning houses. She was also a longtime employee of the Cozad Hospital as a nurses aide. She retired at the age of 78, but continued to do volunteer nursing work.
Ogorsolka received the State Caring Kind Award for her hospital work and was inducted into the Cozad Hospital Foundation Hall of Fame.
She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church and the Altar Society as well as being named Woman Of the Year. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary and the Red Hat Society.
Ogorsolka had enjoyed going to garage sales, according to family members.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Vincent in 1982; a son, Charles in 1985; brother, Wayne; sister, Glenna Young; an infant sister, Audrey and an infant brother, Glenn.
Survivors include: two sons—Ennis (Susan) Ogorsolka of Paso Robles, CA, and Alan Ogorsolka (friend, Sue) of Grand Junction, CO; three daughters—Kathleen (Larry) Nichols of Gothenburg, Maureen (Steve) Sparks of Cozad and Joan Marie Fuller of Whitewater, CO; two brothers—Dale (Ruby) Bartlett and Lyle (Lola) Bartlett, all of Cozad; two sisters—Thelma Peterson of Gothenburg and Donna Jean (Bill) Laird of Cozad; 12 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and an expected great-grandchild.
A memorial has been established.
