Pauline Swanda, 100 - September 19, 2007
Pauline M. Swanda, 100, of Gothenburg and Cozad, died Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church in Cozad with the Rev. Karen Woo officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens at Hastings.
Visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Swanda was born on Aug. 17, 1907, in Woodbury County, IA, to George and Laura King Ashmore.
She graduated from Macy High School in 1926 and, on Sept. 7, 1926, she was united in marriage to Emil Swanda at Schuyler.
Swanda and her husband lived in several Nebraska communities before moving to Hastings where she worked for the Hastings Utilities and a veterinarian.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1967. In 1978, she moved to Cozad.
Swanda was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and a church circle. She was also a member of PEO and the Eastern Star for over 40 years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed crocheting, according to family members.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Emil; four brothers and four sisters.
Survivors include: a son, Mike (Donna) Swanda of Cozad; a daughter, Beth (Roy) Lahr of Hastings; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; special friend, Sharon Batie of Cozad.
Memorials are suggested to the First Presbyterian Church, Central Plains Home Health and Hospice, or donor’s choice.
