Betty Schultz, 73 - August 12, 2009
Betty I. Schultz, 73, of Norfolk died Friday, July 24, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Rehabilitation and Care Center.
Services were held July 28 at the First United Methodist Church of Norfolk with the Rev. Charles Kathurima Murithi officiating. Burial took place at Prospect Hill Cemetery.
Schultz was born Dec. 8, 1935, at Cozad, the daughter of Walter and Ina (Troxel) Mitchell. She was raised on a family farm and attended rural school. She graduated from high school in 1953 after completing normal training which allowed her to teach the following year.
On June 13, 1954, she married Roger Schultz. The couple resided at Tooele, UT, before returning to Cozad. They then moved to Norfolk in 1962 when her husband began his career with Allstate Insurance. She served as his secretary after raising her family. The couple retired in April of 1997.
Her greatest love was for her family and she enjoyed cooking, sewing, golfing and playing bridge, according to family members.
Schultz was active in her church where she served with the circle. Her life was marked by grace, dignity and courage, said family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Ina.
Survivors include: her husband of 55 years, Roger; her children—Greg (Patricia) Schultz of Hastings, Mitchell (Karma) Schultz of Norfolk, Shellie (Tim) Otto of Cottage Grove, MN, and Scott (Cindy) Schultz of Prairie Village, KS; 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; a brother, Dale (Lana) Mitchell of Cozad; sister, Marge O’Hara of Ogallala.
