Robert Harvey, 77 - August 20, 2008
Robert “Bob” Harvey, 77, of Cozad, died Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at the Golden Living Care Center in Cozad.
A visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Cozad Christian Church with Jeremy Jech and Larry Thomas officiating. Burial with military honors will be at the Cozad Cemetery.
Harvey was born on Dec. 13, 1930, north of Cozad to George and Edith (Swayne) Harvey. He was raised in the Cozad area where he attended rural schools.
On June 1, 1952, he married Gladys Pontzius at Cozad. The couple had celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary this year.
He served in the Army infantry during the Korean War, returning to the United States in 1954. He was then stationed in Kansas and Colorado where he and his wife were able to be together. Following his discharge in 1955, the couple returned to Cozad.
Harvey and his wife resided in the Cozad and Lexington area for most of their married life. He had worked as a carpenter for several years, having built many homes in the Cozad and Lexington area. He also worked as a truck mechanic and payloader operator as well.
?He was a member of the Cozad Christian Church and a lifetime member of the American Legion of Cozad.
?Among his enjoyments were camping, fishing, hunting, playing cards, pitching horseshoes, woodworking and bowling, according to family members. He also enjoyed playing baseball and pitched for the Cozad Christian League and the Eustis Lions League.
Harvey was preceded in death by: his parents, George and Edith; two infant sons—Larry Dean and Freddie Dean; a daughter, Jeanne Marie.
Survivors include: his wife, Gladys Harvey of Cozad; two sisters—Betty Kennedy of Cozad and Hazel Woodward of Gothenburg; a half-sister, Connie (Ron) Olds of Cozad; two children from a previous marriage—Richard and Treasa; four step-sisters—Lucille, June, Marie and Marilyn; step-brother, Roger.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
