Mary Franzen, 71 - August 31, 2017

Mary Franzen, 71, of Cozad passed away Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017, at her home.
Services took place on Wednesday, Sept. 6, at 10:30 a.m. at the Cozad United Methodist Church with the Rev. Doug Smith officiating. Burial was at the Cozad Cemetery.
Franzen was born July 30, 1946, at Fort Dodge, IA, to Wilbur “Barney” and Mary Genevieve (Butler) Nickless. She spent most of her childhood at Stuart before moving to Wausa her senior year where she graduated high school with the Class of 1965.
She attended beauty school in Omaha, and in 1975, she married Jim Franzen at Cozad. The couple raised their three daughters on a family farm north of Cozad.
Franzen was employed with Monroe Auto for eight years, but spent most of her time working with her husband on the family farm. The couple moved to town around 2005 and continued farming until their retirement.
She was a member of the Cozad Newcomers Club, Mrs. Jaycees and the American Agricultural Movement.
Franzen loved riding horses, especially with her siblings when they were young, according to family members. She also enjoyed gardening and reading. Family was everything to her and her most treasured times were spent with her grandchildren.
?She was preceded in death by: her parents; Wilbur “Barney” and Mary; a brother, Jim Nickless; sister, Barbara Sterba.
?Survivors include: her husband, Jim Franzen of Cozad; her daughters—Tracy (Scott) Lindstedt and Julia (John) Myer, all of Cozad, and Sheila (Jeffrey) Eich of Elkhorn; grandchildren—Sydney Noel and Jake Nicholas Lindstedt, and Alynne Marie and Maddux John Myer, all of Cozad, and Cooper Cole Eich of Hooper and; brothers—John (Mary Jean) Nickless of O’Neill, Jerry (Ruby) Nickless of Florida, Doug Johnson of Hot Springs, SD, and Justin (Jenny) Nickless of Ainsworth; a sister, Chrystal (Dave) Mlnarik of Lincoln; sister-in-law, Maxine Nickless; brother-in-law, Bob Sterba; step-parents, Darleen (Nickless) Mahlendorf and husband Leonard of Norfolk; step-sisters—Dranoel (Bill) Fleharty and family of Cozad and Danielle (Will) Hatterman and family of Tilden; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A memorial has been established.
