Irene Peek, 90 - February 11, 2009


Irene Elsie Peek, 90, of Cozad died Monday, Feb. 9, 2009, at Cozad.
A visitation was held Wed­nesday, Feb. 11, from 5-8 p.m. with family present at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel at Gothenburg.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 12, at the American Lutheran Church of Cozad with the Rev. Don Wilken officiating. Burial will take place at the Cozad Cemetery.
Peek was born Oct. 24, 1918, at Gilead to William A. and Ellen Christine (Neeman) Rauckmann, the younger of two children.
She was united in marriage to Chester “Chet” A. Peek on Jan. 27, 1940, at Colby, KS. To this union, two daughters were born.
Peek and her husband resided in Goodland, KS, until 1977, when they moved to Lexington to be near their children and grandchildren. Several years later, the couple moved to the new Cozad housing facility.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1990, and she continued to live at the housing facility until moving to assisted living. In July of 2008, she then moved to the Golden Living Center.
Peek was a member of the Cozad American Lutheran Church, the To Better You Club, and the 12th Street Birthday Club of Cozad.
She enjoyed playing cards and fishing with her husband, and being a talented quilter, made numerous baby blankets for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, according to family members.
?Peek was preceded in death by: her parents, William and Ellen; her husband, Chester; brother, George.
?Survivors include: her two daughters—Goldie Souders of Parker, CO, and Jean (Mike) Critchfield of Cozad; grandchildren—Mike Souders of Tullahoma, TN, Teri (Dale) Tipton of Parker, Lisa (Kenard) Koetter and family—Ryan, Aaron and Kody of Ellinwood, KS, Kelly (John) Peden and family—Nicole, Nathan, Zach, Savannah and Jaiden of Cozad, and Kristi (Tim) Daum and family—Alyson, Brenleigh and Andrew of Limon, CO; a great-great-grandchild, Blake, son of Nicole Nelsen and Andrew Conroy.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church of Cozad.
