Estella Tillotson, 96 - July 11, 2014Estella “Estel” A. (Schurr) Tillotson, 96, of Gothenburg, formerly of Farnam, died Friday, July 11, 2014, at the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital.
Services took place at St. Johns Lutheran Church of Eustis on Tuesday, July 15, with the Rev. Jon Mapa officiating. Interment was at the Eustis Lutheran Cemetery with the Rev. Jeff Cottingham officiating.
Tillotson was born Jan. 1, 1918, at Reynolds, the daughter of Zeb H. and Anna (Herbst) Jackson.
She grew up at McCool Junction and attended school there until six weeks before her high school graduation. She then moved with her family to Ingham and graduated from Ingham High with the Class of 1936.
In May of 1940, she married John J. Schurr. To this union three children were born. He later preceded her in death.
Tillotson attended beauty school in 1960 and opened the Schurr-Way Beauty Salon. She was employed as a beautician in Farnam for 42 years, and served as past president of the Nebraska Cosmetology Association.
She was united in marriage to LeRoy Tillotson, Jr. in March of 1967. The couple enjoyed traveling the United States and abroad.
Tillotson helped to organize the HOP Extension Club and the Tri-County 4-H Club. She also served as a 4-H Club leader, was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and volunteered at the Farnam Senior Center.
?She enjoyed keeping busy with sewing, quilting, gardening, hairdressing and being a farm wife, according to family members. She also enjoyed spending time in her flower garden, especially taking care of her peonies.
?Tillotson was preceded in death by: her first husband, John J. Schurr; her second husband, LeRoy M. Tillotson Jr.; her parents; a sister, Lorene Whittingham; brother, Uland “Bud” C. Jackson; sister-in-law, Dylores Jackson; a grandson, Wayne Schurr.
Survivors include: her sons—John L. (Kay) Schurr and Jerry (Linda) Schurr, both of Farnam; her daughter, Janet (John) Speck of St. Paul; grandsons—Heath (Tiffany) Reinders, Adrianna and Grayson, Jerud Schurr, Chase and Ryleigh, Ty Schurr, Marty (Shelly) Schurr, Adalyn, Gavon, Ashlee and Drew, Ryan (Kari) Schurr and Luke; granddaughter, Paige (Jeff) Kreycik, Presley, Dawson and Jack; great-great-granddaughter, Kiera.
Memorials are suggested to the Farnam Senior Center and the Farnam American Legion Auxiliary.
