Hazel Irene Goings, 94 - April 06, 2014Hazel Irene Goings, 94, of Bertrand, formerly of Holdrege and Axtell, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at the Phelps Memorial Health Center in Holdrege.
Services will be conducted at the Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Holdrege on Wednesday, April 9, at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Linda Knipping-Potts officiating. Interment will take place at the Prairie Home Cemetery.
Goings was born March 6, 1920, on the family farm in Harlan County, the second of three children born to Leroy “Roy” and Annie “Ella” (Urbom) Ranz. She attended primary school at a country school in Harlan County, later graduating from the Atlanta High School with the class of 1938.
She was united in marriage to Merton Goings on May 25, 1941, and this union, four children were born.
Goings and her family resided at Axtell where her husband taught and coached basketball and football. The couple also began farming south of Atlanta at this time, while she worked at Becton-Dickenson until her retirement.
?She was a member of the Mascot-Bethel Evangelical United Brethren Church and served as the Sunday school teacher.
?Goings was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband, Merton in 1995; a brother, Robert Ranz; sister, Maurine Kirby.
Survivors include: her children—Joan (Heath) Moon of Burbank, CA, Robert (Evelyn) Goings of Gothenburg, Ferd (Mimi) Goings of Papillion and Jim (Carol) Goings of Broken Bow; 10 grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A memorial has been established and will be designated at a later date.
