Alice Edna Liljestrand, 91 - December 05, 2013Alice Edna Liljestrand, 91, of North Platte, formerly of Gothenburg and Brady, died Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at Centennial Park in North Platte.
Services will take place at the First United Methodist Church on Tuesday, Dec. 10, at 10:30 a.m. with Dr. Jeff Thurman officiating. Interment will be at the Gaslin Cemetery at Brady.
A visitation will be conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Monday, Dec. 9, from 1 to 8 p.m.
Liljestrand was born March 15, 1922, south of Brady, daughter of Albert and Hilma (Hallstrom) Johnson.
She attended elementary school at South District No. 13, and when the family moved, she attended Brady High School graduating in May of 1939.
On March 14, 1941, she married Vernon Liljestrand at North Platte. To this union, two children were born.
Liljestrand resided at numerous places throughout her life including Brady, Maywood, North Platte, a short while in Colorado, and Chicago for a couple of years to take care of children. She lived in Gothenburg from 1979 to 1994.
She worked as a hospital dietitian, a homemaker, and loved to cook, according to family.
Liljestrand was a member of the Methodist Church, the Brady Extension Club, Lincoln County Voting Election Board and Lions Club.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Vernon Liljestrand; her daughter, Marie Elaine Duis, four sisters—Helen Trusty, Louise Davis, Violet Williams and Amy Johnson; sister-in-law, Ethel Johnson; brothers-in-law—Sylvester Trusty, Verlin Davis, Don Blattner, Harold and Harlan Liljestrand.
Survivors include: her son, Larry (Trish) Liljestrand of North Platte; two grandchildren—Lisa (Mark) Mullinax and Adam ( Denise) Liljestrand; five great-grandchildren—Kyle, Connor, Haley, Lily and Alyvia; two sisters—Maybelle Kreckeler and Ilene Blattner; three brothers—Arnold (Ruth) Johnson, Stan Johnson and George and Dorothy Johnson.
