Betty Lou Hagemeister, 76 - May 10, 2013Betty Lou Hagemeister, 76, of Corpus Christi, TX, formerly of Brady, passed away on Friday, May 10, 2013.
A memorial service took place on Tuesday, May 14, at the First United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi.
Hagemeister was born to Ernest and Opal Hoaglund at Brady on Sept. 7, 1936. She graduated from Brady High School in 1954.
She met her husband, John Hagemeister, while attending the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She was employed with Farmer’s Mutual Insurance Company in Lincoln and continued working for them after she was married until he graduated from the university, whereupon they moved to California.
Hagemeister and her husband moved to several cities in northern California while he was involved with banking.
Two children were born, Lisa and Brent. During this time, she worked for several companies and found time to be active in and president of the MARC Club in Lodi, CA. She was also a member of the Ukiah Methodist Church.
In 1990, she and her family moved to Sunriver, OR, where she was an avid bridge player and served in volunteer work for the community of Sunriver, and chairing the safety committee.
She took up golf and played regularly while also working part time.
Hagemeister and her husband were members of the Sunriver Community Fellowship, and she was also a member of PEO and served as an officer of the group as well.
In 2004, the couple moved to Corpus Christi to be near to family. She continued to play bridge and was a member of several groups as well as being active with the AV Chapter of PEO and served as an officer of that organization.
She was a devoted wife and mother, and was a master of the pun giving joy to many with her wit and humor, according to family members.
Survivors include: her husband, John; her daughter, Mrs. Lisa (David) Gay of Centreville, VA; her son, Dr. Brent (Dr. Fariba Zarinetchi) Hagemeister; grandchildren—Brian Gay, Michael Gay, Kevin Hagemeister and Douglas Hagemeister; a brother, John (Bonnie) Hoaglund of Sacramento, CA; nephews—Jeffrey (Christine) Hoaglund of Albuquerque, NM, and Stephen Hoaglund of Sacramento.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, 900 South Shoreline Blvd., Corpus Christi, TX, 78401, the New Century Hospice of South Texas, 4550 Corona Dr., Corpus Christi, TX 78411, or a charity of choice.
