Leonard Widholm, 84 - April 16, 2013Leonard Ernest Widholm, 84, of Gothenburg died Tuesday, April 16, 2013, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
Services will take place at the Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Ave., in Gothenburg on Monday, April 22, at 10:30 a.m. with David Wiseman officiating. Interment will be at the Grandview Cemetery.
A visitation will be conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Sunday, April 21, from 2 to 8 p.m.
Widholm was born Jan. 25, 1929, at Tallin Table north of Gothenburg, son of Ernest and Martha Alma (Weeks) Widholm.
He grew up at Tallin Table and graduated from Gothenburg High School Class of 1947.
Widholm served his country as an Army Medic during the Korean War.
He married Leona Mae Sitorius on June 6, 1950, at Gothenburg. The couple began a lifetime of farming and raising their three children.
Widholm enjoyed farming, traveling, Husker football and his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, family members said.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Ernest Bernard Widholm; his mother, Martha Alma Widholm-Fry; step-father, Samuel Fry; two brothers—Marvin “Red” and Harold Widholm; sister-in-law, Susie Sitorius.
Survivors include: his wife, Leona Widholm of Gothenburg; two daughters—Susan (Eldon) Franzen of North Platte and Trudy (Tim) Kotschwar of Kearney; a son, Gary (Brenda) Widholm of Gothenburg; four granddaughters—Angela (Gabriel) Morrow of Wisconsin, Jennifer Fiese of Gothenburg, Sarah (Travis) Nichelson of Michigan, and Jenn Kotschwar of Kearney; five grandsons—Richard (Melissa) Fiese of Elm Creek, Jeffrey (Shiloah) Franzen and Tyson Franzen, all of North Platte, Jordan (Meggie) Widholm of Sioux City, IA, and Jeff (Becky) Kotschwar of El Paso, TX; 13 great-grandchildren—Zacheri Caldwell, Sky Lineger, Trenton Flies, Ameila Grace Morrow, Jude Morrow, Mikayla Nichelson, Madison Nichelson, Adam Nichelson, Zander Fiese, Kegan Fiese, Audrey Kotschwar, Makenzie Kotschwar and Feona Mae Franzen; a sister, Carolyn (Donald) Glenn of Omaha; sisters-in-law—Elaine Widholm of Glendale, CA, Sandy Widholm of Gothenburg, and Margery (Norman) Jensen of Council Bluffs, IA; brother-in-law, Bill Sitorius of Gothenburg; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
