Our freedoms are eroding
The Founders considered freedom of religion so important that it received first mention in Amendment I of the Bill of Rights. They made it clear that government had no part in the establishment of religion. However, people were free to exercise any and all forms of religion, or none. Freedom was, after all, one of the main reasons many of the first colonists came here. They held the belief that the most important thing in life is the ultimate destiny of the soul.
The Declaration of Independence mentions Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God and how all men are created equal...endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights. Thomas Jefferson wrote, “...can the liberty of a nation be thought secure when we have removed the only firm basis, a conviction in the minds of the people that their liberties are a gift of God?” I’d say there is a compelling argument that they had strong intent for religion to play a leading role in our society.
In President Obama’s proclamation of “Religious Freedom Day” he said, “Foremost among the rights Americans hold sacred is the freedom to worship as we choose.” But, the Obama justice department argued in federal court, “An association must choose it’s market. Once it enters the marketplace of commerce in any substantial degree, it loses the complete control over it’s membership, that it would otherwise enjoy if it confined it’s affairs to the marketplace of ideas.”
This usurpation of our freedoms through the Affordable Care Act (ACA/Obamacare), brought about targeting of “The Little Sisters of the Poor” by the Health and Human Service’s contraceptive mandate. The Little Sisters refuse to execute a form that deputizes a third party to sin on their behalf. Obama lawyers called it a “...stroke of their own pen...”
We are seeing the beginnings of a push to bring Sharia law into our system. There is no way it could ever be compatible with our Constitution. As in France and England, we will eventually be faced with violence. Imagine Obama having given the “Sermon on the Mount.” People would have been at each others throats on their way home and wars probably would have killed us off a thousand years ago. Wait a minute, that sounds similar to what began after his Cairo speech to the Muslim world.
Purposefully or not, Obama’s policies have helped bring about the rise of the Muslim Brotherhood and increased chaos in an entire region already in turmoil. In Egypt, Christians are being killed and some of the worlds oldest churches are being destroyed. Religions don’t always want to co-exist. Have you ever heard of the Crusades? Have you ever wondered why civilizations like ancient Egypt died out, while a band of nomads traipsing around in the desert were ultimately able to create a thriving country in the center of all the turmoil? Egypt built monuments. Israel built people.
Freedom causes problems. The main problem lies in the fact that there will always be those who want to take it away from you.
