County candidate forum in Cozad
Candidates running for office in Dawson County and two seeking the District 36 state legislative seat will be part of a public forum.
The Dawson County Farm Bureau has scheduled the event on Tuesday, April 8, at 7 p.m. at the Wilson Public Library in Cozad.
Helping with the District 36 part of the forum will be representatives from the Custer and Buffalo County Farm Bureaus since parts of those counties also make up the district.
Matt Williams of Gothenburg and Luis Sotelo of Lexington seek the District 36 seat.
Contested county offices will be represented by the following candidates: clerk of the district court—Jackie Rowan, Maria Reutlinger-Maravilla and Maria Barajas, all of Lexington, and Becky Boryca of Cozad; register of deeds—Dian K. Lauby and Debra Stuchlik, both of Lexington; county surveyor—Shawn Boyd of Gothenburg and Mark A. Streit of Lexington; county sheriff candidates—Ken Moody of Gothenburg and Gary Reiber of Lexington.
Other county officeholders who are running unopposed have also been invited and include county assessor John Phillip Moore, county attorney Elizabeth Waterman, county clerk Karla Zlatkovsky, county commissioners Bill Stewart and Dennis Rickertsen and county treasurer Sharon Wood, all of Lexington.
Moderator for the forum will be long-time Dawson County journalist Barb Bierman Batie.
The forum format will allow each candidate time for a short introduction and chance to state their qualifications for office, followed by two to three moderator- posed questions relevant to the office sought. Timers will be present to keep the forum flowing smoothly.
Following each segment, time will be allotted for questions from the audience.
The public is invited to get better acquainted with all the candidates.
Coffee and cookies will be served at the end of the forum to allow time for more informal one-on-one conversations with candidates.
