Eagles lose third straight game
Defensive struggles continue
Brady had trouble stopping the run against Hayes Center Friday losing 50-12 to the Cardinals.
The duo of Tristan Johnson and Seth Gohl ran for 275 of the 353 rushing yards for the Cardinals.
“They pounded us running the ball and we played bad defense,” head coach Andy Seamann said. “The entire game was lack of execution and lack of tackling.”
The Eagles dug themselves a big hole being down 30-0 at the end of the first half.
Seamann said when the defense gives up that many points early, it changes the offensive gameplan.
“The kids panic and try and force things to happen,” he said.
Brady did have success moving the ball in the third quarter when Trevor Mann capped a drive with a one-yard touchdown run.
Unfortunately, Hayes Center added 14 more points in the third quarter extending its lead to 44-6.
Mann’s second touchdown came in the fourth quarter on a 10-yard quarterback draw.
By that time the game was out of reach.
Brady’s rushing game averaged over four yards per carry on offense.
Most of the Eagles success came on the ground and in the return game.
Matt Neimann and Jon Taullie each averaged over 20 yards per return.
Neimann combined for 87 return yards with the longest return of 37 yards. Taullie had 42 return yards on two returns.
Seamann said the defense is dictating the entire game allowing offenses to run all over.
“It has been our focus the last few weeks and it will continue to be for our next game,” Seamann said. “We will shore up our mistakes and responsibilities.”
Brady has a bye week before traveling to Hitchcock County in the last game of the regular season.
The Eagles put up 62 points in the meeting last year.
Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. Oct. 24.
