Gothenburg Volleyball goes 3-0 at Invite
The Swedes won the Gothenburg Invite Saturday going undefeated against Ord, Holdrege and Sutherland.
The tournament capped off a week where Gothenburg played 11 sets, won all five matches, recorded 31 aces and over 12 kills per set.
In the first match, assistant coach Jim Clark guided the Swedes to a three-set win over the Chanticleers, 25-16, 19-25, 25-21.
Clark said in tough matches the Swedes will go to their middles to get the points needed to finish the game.
Against Ord, Regan Geiken led the team with 13 kills while Tiani Reeves contributed 11.
“We are fortunate to have athletic middles in games like that,” Clark said.
Clark added that even though head coach Mary Clark was absent for most of the match, the girls experience allowed them to play on without any distractions.
Mary Clark said that Ord was a tough team that has played a tough schedule this season.
Gothenburg’s next match was against Holdrege.
The Dusters played well but couldn’t hang with the Swedes as Gothenburg won the match in two sets, 25-15, 25-20.
The difference in the match was Reeves who hit 22-24 for 15 kills in the match.
Mary Clark said that performances like that are something she expects from Reeves.
Gothenburg had momemtum going into the match against the Sailors who played well against the other two teams, Mary Clark said.
However, Gothenburg wasted no time taking the first set 25-15.
“We saw they had been playing well but we wanted to take care of them,” she said.
In the second set, Sutherland stuck around but the Swedes ended the match with a 25-20 victory.
Seven Swedes recorded a kill led by Reeves with 12.
Aryn Meisinger was a perfect 22-22 on set attempts with 12 assists.
The Swedes take on McCook and Lexington in McCook on Thursday.
“They are decent teams, but we have to play well against everyone,” Mary Clark said.
