ROPE RESCUE at grain bins
Getting ready to Rappel
Members of the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department had an all-day training Friday night, Saturday and Sunday morning at the All Points Cooperative bin site along Highway 30.
Fire chief Mark Ballmer said the department had their first rope rescue class two years ago and then bought equipment which is required for the state fire marshal to do the training. Ballmer said the training was needed so the department has a way of getting someone injured from a high place, such as an elevator, bin or roof or from a low area (like a canyon or boot pit where he or she can be treated.
