DC Daffodil Days raises over $11,000
Dawson County volunteers for the American Cancer Society Daffodil Days raised $11,040 this year, according to event chair Louise Dannehl of Lexington.
“We are so grateful to the staff, volunteers and supporters that have made Daffodil Days such an important part of the American Cancer Society’s history and our community over the last 40 years,” Dannehl said.
Although Daffodil Days is a program with a long history, and has brought hope and cheer to many people, our Daffodil campaign in 2013 was one of only a handful still taking place across the country, she said.
The American Cancer Society has decided to refocus resources on signature fund-raising events, like Relay For Life and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. These events are held in thousands of communities nationwide and across the globe and helps reach millions of people. Relay For Life alone has become the world’s largest single-day event to end cancer raising over $400 million last year.
Area businesses, schools, and civic organizations donating $100 or more and honored with Sunshine Awards in 2013 include Plum Creek Medical Group, Lexington Regional Health Center, Plum Creek Motors, Plum Creek Market Place, U-Save Pharmacy, Kellie Rieke at Madeline’s Café, Jayme Hay, Barmore Drug, Plum Creek Care Center, Reynolds Love Funeral Home, Nebraskaland Tire, ServiceMaster of Mid-Nebraska, Terry Spradlin at Green Apple Café, Orthman Manufacturing, Judy Linden, Great Western Bank, Arlan and Pam Ackerman, Peterson Supermarket, Gothenburg Reality, Hilltop Estates, NSG, Bazata Insurance Agency, Christy Aden and Mary Theasmeyer.
Dollars raised through the Daffodil Days campaign will help the American Cancer Society fund groundbreaking cancer research, provide up-to-date cancer information and education, advocate for public health policies that benefit the community and provide services that improve the quality of life for patients and their families.
