ATV pursuit through Brady ends with Taser
A Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy was forced to use his Taser to end a foot pursuit after an ATV driver led him on a short chase through Brady during the early-morning hours of June 26.
According to a press release from the sheriff’s department, a deputy on a traffic stop in town observed an ATV being operated carelessly in the village.
When the deputy attempted to stop the ATV, a pursuit ensued through streets and alleys.
The ATV driver eventually cut through a yard and struck a railroad tie, crashing the ATV.
The driver, Chad Spurgin, 33 of Brady, then ran from the deputy. After a short foot pursuit, Spurgin was tased and apprehended.
Spurgin told the deputy he was injured from wrecking his ATV and he was taken to Great Plains Regional Medical Center where his injuries were determined to be minor.
Spurgin was charged with a stop sign violation, careless driving, flight to avoid arrest, obstruction of a police officer, refusal to provide a chemical test and driving under the influence.
He was jailed in the Lincoln County Detention Center but has since been freed on bond.
