Three golfers medal at SWC
COZAD—High winds and chilly temperatures caused extra strokes at the Southwest Conference golf meet Thursday at the Cozad Country Club.
Winds gusting at 40 mph or higher throughout the day made it difficult to predict where the ball might land, according to Swede coach Jim Henke.
Minden, with four girls finishing in the top 15, earned the team title with a total score of 408.
Valentine was the runner up at 447 with Gothenburg finishing fourth at 458.
Three Swedes earned medals and found a place on the SWC all-conference team.
Sidney Thompson and Elizabeth Graham each shot 112 on the day. Thompson took home the ninth-place medal on a scorecard handicap count-back and Graham got 10th.
Both Thompson and Graham gained SWC second team honors by placing in the top 10.
Jourdan Matthies was one stroke off her personal best, Henke said, carding 115 for 14th place and SWC honorable mention.
Anna Boson finished just outside medal contention in 17th place with an 18-hole score of 119.
The Swedes played in the C-4 district meet at Meadowlark Hills in Kearney on Tuesday. Results were not available before press time.
