Agreement allows DC to take over Gosper County’s weed control duties

LEXINGTON—Dawson County’s weed superintendent Marty Craig believes he can handle enforcement of the state’s noxious weed laws in two counties without hiring additional help.

Dawson County commissioners approved an interlocal agreement during their regular bimonthly meeting on Friday which allows Craig to serve as weed superintendent for both counties.

Gosper County’s weed superintendent has retired and officials there are looking to save money through the interlocal agreement.

Gosper County will pay Dawson County $33,000 for the next fiscal year plus a prorated amount of $5,500 to finish out the current year.

Commissioners in both counties have been working out the details of the agreement for the past couple of months.

In other action, Dawson County commissioners approved an addendum to a contract with Tri-County Hospital in Lexington for inmate health services.

In the original agreement, the hospital provided necessary services to jail inmates at 6% less the cost of public health care.

The addendum changes the discounted amount to 20% which could save the county a substantial amount of money each year, according to clerk Karla Zlatkovsky.
