GHS gears up for coronation
Week of special activities planned.
Stars, as in the Kearney Catholic mascot, are on the minds of Gothenburg High School students this week as they celebrate countdown to coronation.
A week of dress-up activities with the theme, “Rave of a Week,” is scheduled through Friday with coronation and a dance set for Saturday night following the Swede basketball game against the Kearney Catholic Stars.
Monday students dressed like nerds to outsmart the Stars and, on Tuesday, appeared as twins so the Kearney team would see double.
Wednesday (today) they planned to send the Stars into early retirement by dressing like grandparents. On Thursday, they will slop the Stars and wear hillbilly attire.
Outshining the Stars, by dressing in bright, neon colors, is the plan for Friday.
During a pep rally last Friday, candidates for coronation king and queen were announced. They are seniors Shelby Eggleston, Janae Wiggins, Jordyn Haake, Kyle Demoret, Cody Ostergard and Tannor Mroczek.
Royalty will be crowned during a coronation ceremony.
Each high school grade also elected representatives for the coronation ceremony. They are freshmen Carlin Daharsh and Trenton Long, sophomores Taylor Wolf and Logan Koehler and juniors Tyler Aden and Erica Houchin.
The dance will be in the Dudley Elementary gym Saturday night from 9 p.m. to midnight. Doors close at 10 p.m.
Students are asked to sign up out-of-town dates by Thursday.
Seniors wishing to be in the ceremony lineup are asked to provide information in the office by 3:35 p.m. Wednesday.
