Brady girls cruise to tournament title
The Brady girls weren’t perfect during their volleyball tournament at home over the weekend.
“We made plenty of mistakes,” said coach Lynne Johnson. “But the thing is we were able to make mistakes and overcome them instead of getting down and staying down.”
The Brady girls won the tournament title with straight-set wins over South Loup, Stapleton-McPherson County and Mullen.
Against South Loup in the opening round, Johnson said she was thankful for an easier matchup to start the day.
“Games in the morning can be kind of tricky,” she said. “Sometimes we’re just not mentally ready to play.”
But Brady handled the Arnold-Callaway co-op team 25-14, 25-7.
The Eagles advanced to the semi-finals to face SMC for a third time this season.
“It can be hard to beat a team three times,” Johnson said. “And we could very well see SMC again in the conference tournament next month.”
SMC put up a fight but the Eagles came away with a 25-23, 25-16 victory sending them to the championship which pit No. 9 state ranked Mullen against No. 8 rated Brady.
“The key was consistent passing,” Johnson said of Brady’s 25-18, 25-22 win over the Broncos. “We know we can hit the ball from anywhere on the court. We just have to get a good pass to give the setter some options.”
