Future looks bright for Swede football team

As the season has come to a close for the year, the Gothenburg Swedes had a lot of positives to take from all the games they’ve played.

Gothenburg went undefeated (4-0) in district play.

“Winning district was big. We haven’t done that in 10 years,” Coach Haake said. They won a tough rivarly game against the Haymakers, 7-6. The Swedes went on the road and beat Kearney Catholic, the number three ranked team according to the Omaha World Herald’s C-1 ratings. Despite the game’s final score, the Swedes earned the opportunity to host a play-off game.

“They walked into that game, (at Kearney) that night, with the belief that we could do this,” Coach Haake mentioned. “I’m not sure we had that mind set for the play-off game.”

In the future Coach Haake would like to see his players get to a state of mind, that when they step on the field, the court or the mat, it’s always going to be a game every time.
