Council works to fix sidewalks and save trees

While conversation continued regarding specific guidelines, one thing the Gothenburg City Council could agree on is that the safety of the community’s pedestrians is a priority that must be addressed. Once again the condition of the city sidewalks was a topic of discussion as the council met in regular session on Tuesday, Oct. 3.┬áThe area being assessed for repairs in this phase of the sidewalk project includes the portion of the city between 11th Street and 20th Street, and along Ave. D, Lake Ave. and Ave. F.

Taking into consideration the suggestions of the engineer, the council eventually landed on criteria they all felt comfortable implementing. The next step will be an actual walk-through of the designated area using the established guidelines to determine the sidewalks that need addressed. Those property owners will then be notified that they have until October 2018 to make the noted repairs.
