Fate of Sod House Museum up in the air

Being in the tourism business since 1972 is a thing of the heart, according to Merle and Linda Block. They are fourth generation residents whose families both lived in sod houses.

“It is actually a gift for people to see this history,” Merle said about the Sod House Museum. “Most people have no concept of 6-10 people living in that type of shared space. It gives them something to think about.”

The Blocks have decided to sell the Sod House Museum after operating it for 30 years.

After getting everything closed up for the season, a sign will be posted stating that the museum and land are for sale by the owners.

“We hope someone will take over that loves history,” Linda said. Although the couple is interested in selling, they said they would hate to see the museum demolished.
