City will provide year-round dumpster access to residents

Each Spring the City of Gothenburg hosts a city-wide clean up and provides free disposal of those hard-to-get-rid-of items that so often clutter our homes and properties. Maintaining the community’s beauty is of utmost importance to the City Council and Mayor, prompting discussion and a decision to expand the clean-up efforts.

At the Sept. 19 meeting of the council, City Administrator Bruce Clymer presented a recommendation to provide a roll-off available to the city’s residents year-round.

The discussion arose during negotiations to renew the franchise agreement with local trash haulers.

As part of the franchise agreement, each hauler is required to furnish a minimum of two 30-yard or larger roll-offs during Clean City Week in April. Clymer’s suggestion to the Council was to make an addition to that agreement of requiring each franchisee to also provide a 30-yard or larger roll-off at the City maintenance facility at all times. This will be on a three-month rotating basis
