City solar array to be completed next month

Back in June, the Gothenburg City Council voted to add another 500 kilowatts in 2018 to the city’s solar project which the council had approved a few months before. The initial phase of that project is now well underway, and expected to be completed by late October.

With rising energy costs many communities are exploring options for alternative energy sources. The city of Gothenburg is no exception. City Administrator Bruce Clymer explains that the idea for using solar power arose after seeing the success that the community of Central City was having with a similar project. So the two towns partnered and applied for a Nebraska Environmental Trust Grant, with the assistance of the Nebraska Community Energy Alliance who wrote the grant. Each city was awarded $150,000 from that grant.
