New program provides school clothes for Gothenburg kids

Donations needed for free-will event on Sept. 9

For the past five years, Kendra Boyd and Wenda Keiser have been providing backpacks filled with food to elementary students in Gothenburg to help supplement family weekend meals. It was through that program that the women became aware of another need for some of the community’s children—clothing.

On Saturday, Sept. 9, Gothenburg students from preschool through 12th grade are invited to “shop” at the American Lutheran Church, located at 1512 Ave. G, from 8 a.m. to noon. Here’s how the program works: gently used clothing will be available for all ages, for a free will donation.

“People in poverty don’t always necessarily want a handout. They want to contribute something,” said Boyd.
