Cemetery Board says it's time to obey the rules

To most people, a cemetery is sacred ground—second only to the church in their esteem. Members of the Gothenburg Cemetery Board believe the care and maintenance of such “sacred ground” should be a top priority, and last week the board sought backing from the city council on that issue.

The cemetery board consists of five members appointed by the mayor. One of the primary duties of the board, according to chairman Ervin Haynes, is to keep the grounds looking attractive and consistent. That requires a great deal of maintenance, especially during the spring and summer months.
