Roger D. Mann, 72 - January 14, 2013Roger D. Mann, 72, of Ashland, originally of Gothenburg, passed away Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Sun Lake, AZ.
A celebration of life service was conducted on Saturday, Jan. 26, at the United Methodist Church in Ashland.
Mann was born June 27, 1940, at Gothenburg to Horace and Mildred (Durland) Mann. He attended school in Gothenburg and graduated in 1958.
He was united in marriage to Jean Loutzenheiser on Sept. 21, 1957, at Council Bluffs, IA.
Following high school, he and his wife moved to Lincoln where he obtained an associate degree in construction at the University of Nebraska.
Mann was employed as an iron worker for Olson Construction for 17 years, and for several years he worked for KVI, Inc. as a superintendent. He finished his career working for the Davis Erection Company retiring in 2002.
He and his wife made their home at Ashland and, after his wife’s passing in 2010, he lived in Sun Lake, AZ, during the winter months.
Mann was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Trustees, United Methodist Men’s Club, the Sun Lakers Rotary Club, the local 21 Ironworkers, and was a former member of the willow Point Homeowners Association.
He never missed attending church on Sundays and he loved going to his grandchildren’s events as well as following Husker football, family members said. In his younger years, he loved to water ski and go camping. He was a devoted son and took care of his parents in their golden years. He also enjoyed his time in Arizona and played a lot of golf.
Mann was preceded in death by: his wife, Jean; an infant son; a brother, Norman Mann.
Survivors include: his daughters and sons-in-law—Tam (Jim) Hottovy of Ashland, Cathy (Scott) Christiansen of Omaha, Cindy Wokoma of Lincoln, and Heidi (Neal) Herring of Gretna; grandchildren—Chelsea, Wade, Nicole, Dustin, Jacob, Logan, Benjamin, Zachary and Riley; sisters-in-law—Marilyn Bauman of Hutchinson, KS, and Nancy (Mark) Gilderhus of Ft. Collins, CO.
Memorials are suggested to the United Methodist Church Trustee Fund.
