Donald Monson, 81 - September 03, 2012

Donald Monson, 81, of Crawford, originally of Brady and Gothenburg, died Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at Rapid City Regional Hospital from stroke complications.
Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. at the Brady Methodist Church in Brady with the Rev. Janie Freeman officiating.
Monson was born and raised on a farm north of Brady to Alfred and Ruby Monson, the youngest of four children, Eleanor, Gerald and Wayne.
He attended school and graduated from Gothenburg High School with the Class of 1949. He also attended a semester at Kearney State College before returning to work on the farm.
Monson joined the United States Army, serving from 1954 to 1956, and was assigned to the Sixth Armored Division.
In 1959, he was married to Mary Fix. To this union, three children were born. The couple were divorced in 1999.
He was then married to Jaynet McCance in 2002. They have spent the last 12 years residing at Crawford.
?Monson was always up for a card game and enjoyed pitching horseshoes, according to family members.
?Survivors include: his wife, Jaynet; his first wife, Mary; his three children—James, Tracie and Michael; nieces—Shirley Huston, Janet (John) Lindstead, Janel (Dave) Roti, Lyn (Layne) Knoedler, Sue (Vic) Shull and Suzanne (K.C.) Mauler; nephews—Kent (Ellen) Anderson, Ron (Chris) Anderson, John (Nancy) Vencill, Jeff Vencill, Doug Fix, Mark Fix and Tim (Carrie) Fix; members of the McCance family; great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial are suggested to the Hot Springs Senior Center. Chamberlain Chapel, P.O. Box 970, Chadron, NE 69337.
