Kenny Klein, 81 - July 23, 2012
Joseph Kenneth “Kenny” Klein, 81, of Elwood died Monday, July 23, 2012, at the Elwood Care Center.
A memorial service will be conducted on Thursday, July 26, at 11 a.m. at Reynolds-Love Funeral Home in Lexington with the Rev. Larry Viter officiating. Inurnment will take place that afternoon at 2 p.m. at Fort McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell.
Klein was born June 23, 1931, in Perkins County, to Joseph and Josephine (Kukla) Klein. He was a 1949 graduate of Perkins County High School.
Following school, he farmed and then served his country with the United States Army.
He was married to Linda McDonald in 1958 at Grant. He later married Mary Moore Dodson on June 10, 1978, at Lexington. Both marriages ended in divorce.
Klein was a horse trainer by trade and a pen rider by vocation. He worked for Vaughn Rhone, Skinner-DeFilipps Cattle Company and Darr Feedlot prior to becoming ill. He also owned and operated his own leather working company, Klein’s Custom Leather for many years.
He loved training horses and working with leather as well as fishing and hunting, said family members.
Klein was preceded in death by: his parents, Joseph and Josephine; a brother, Richard; an infant twin sister, Penelope; a grandson, Cashe; stepgranddaughter, Jessica.
Survivors include: four sons—Steve (Ann) Klein of Paxton, Billy Klein and Angie Miller of Gothenburg, Nate (Candi) Klein of Holdrege, and Ken Klein of Elwood; three daughters—Rebecca Klein of Eddyville, Kelly (Bernard) Smith and Michelle (Kendall) Smith, all of Elwood; 13 grandchildren—Jessica, Jon, Zoey, Abby, Gabriella, Kaiden, Karsen, Samantha, Josephine, Wacey, Chantz and Sage; two great-grandchildren—Karmella and Jayden; 10 stepgrandchildren—Tess, Phillip, Jeremiah, Brandi, Clint, Billie, Kasey, Samantha, Mikaila and Ty; numerous step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
