Velma Marie Wait, 94 - July 05, 2012
Velma Marie Wait, 94, of Ainsworth passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012, at the Brown County Hospital.
Services took place on Monday, July 9, at the United Methodist Church of Ainsworth with the Rev. Eldon Davis officiating. Burial was at the Ainsworth Cemetery under the direction of Hoch Funeral Home of Ainsworth.
Wait was born June 30, 1918, to William and Goldie (Gaskins) Lehn at Ainsworth. She grew up on the family farm northeast of Ainsworth and graduated from High School in 1936.
On March 24, 1940, she was united in marriage to Raymond (Dick) Wait. She was a member of the United Methodist Church for 68 years having joined on April 9, 1944.
She enjoyed many things throughout her life including photography, crocheting, baking, the Nebraska Cornhuskers and writing poetry, according to family members. Her special love was gardening, growing vegetables and beautiful flowers, which she exhibited at the Brown County Fair until she was 90 years of age, winning over 500 ribbons. She also loved sharing her produce with friends and family.
Wait was employed with Morrow’s Drive-In, later Triple Dipper, for over 20 years, retiring when she was 70 years of age.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Bill and Goldie; sisters—Lema Swim and Una Dene Halldorson; brothers—Darrell, Gail and Lowell Lehn.
Survivors include: her husband, Dick; her children—Karole Pokorny, Donna (Jeff) Morris of Gothenburg, Jan Ammon (Tucker) of Brighton, CO, and Jim (Valerie) of Longmont, CO; 10 grandchildren—Jim Pokorny, Bob Pokorny, Kim McDonald, Stacie Borrousch, Scott Ammon, Kristyn Morris, Aaron Wait, Nathan Wait, Blair Turner and Taylor Dunlop; 14 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the Ainsworth United Methodist Church.
