Kenneth Slack, 94 - May 20, 2009
Kenneth Donald Slack, 94, of Gothenburg, died Saturday, May 16, 2009, at Hilltop Estates of Gothenburg.
Services were held Wednesday, May 20, at 2 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Revs. Matthew Groenke and Larry Viter officiating. Burial took place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Slack was born Jan. 13, 1915, to Alfred and Ethel (Dixon) Slack at Gothenburg, where he also attended school.
On April 8, 1937, he was united in marriage to Eva Couture at Gothenburg. To this union, two sons were born.
He was employed as an auto body repairman and a farmer. In 1963, he purchased the Gothenburg Auto Body, which he owned until his retirement in 1978.
Following retirement, he and his wife moved to Fort Collins, CO, in 1979, to be near to their sons. In 1992, the couple returned to Gothenburg where they enjoyed the next 17 years together, according to family members.
Slack enjoyed a meticulous garden and growing flowers as well as enjoying his dogs, though the most important in his life was his family, enjoying get-togethers, said family members.
He was preceded in death by: his father, Alfred James Slack; his mother, Ethel Mae Dixon; brothers—Delbert Slack and Everett Slack; sisters—Ruth Rasmussen and Helen Wilgus.
Survivors include: his wife of 72 years, Eva; his sons—Claude (Judy) Slack of Gothenburg, and Bill (Pat) Slack of Windsor, CO; 10 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.
