Burton Beck, 86 - March 24, 2012
Burton N. Beck, 86, of Gothenburg passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012, at Linden Court in North Platte.
Services will be conducted at the Evangelical Free Church, 1721 Lake Ave., at Gothenburg on Friday, March 30, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert Litzenberger officiating. Interment will follow at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Thursday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Beck was born Jan. 5, 1926, at Gothenburg, son of Nels and May (Ostergard) Beck.
He grew up on the family farm north of Gothenburg and attended Southwest Custer County grade school.
Beck graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1943. After graduation, he lived in Gothenburg and Fremont, then moved north of Gothenburg to farm.
He married Leila Johansen on March 26, 1950, at North Platte. To this union, four children were born.
Beck was employed as a farmer and rancher and a seed corn dealer. He was a member of the New Hope Evangelical Free Church, the Gothenburg Chamber of Commerce and the District 284 school board.
He enjoyed attending church, going to his grandchildren’s activities and visiting with friends, according to family members.
Beck was preceded in death by: his parents, Nels and May Beck; brothers—Kenneth and Orville; sisters—Fern, Violet and Verna.
Survivors include: his wife, Leila Beck; two daughters—Debra (Arlan) Jamieson of Wichita, KS, and children Michael (Lizz) and Teresa, and Tammy (Larry) Paulsen of Cozad and children—Lauren, Drew, Jed, Colt and Jake; two sons—Kenneth (Kelli) Beck of Gothenburg and children—Jared (Anna) Beck and children—Xander and Addison, Jacob and Jessica, and, Timmy (SueAnn) Beck of Wichita, KS, and children—Samantha and Shawn; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
