Richard Miller, 87 - July 10, 2011


Richard Miller, 87, of Foster, NE, died Sunday, July 10, 2011, at Plainview Manor.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Lutheran Church at Foster with inurnment at 1 p.m. Friday at Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.
The Rev. Jerome Leckband will officiate with military rites by VFW Post 5330, Plainview, and American Legion Post 72, Pierce, and the United States Army Honor Guard.
Miller was born Dec. 13, 1923, at Gothenburg to Henry and Dora (Rathe) Miller. He was baptized Jan. 3, 1924, and confirmed July 3, 1938, at Zion Lutheran Church, Gothenburg. He attended Gothenburg Public Schools to the eighth grade and received his G.E.D on Feb. 3, 1982.
He married Beverly A. Hiserote on Jan. 11, 1957, at St. John’s Lutheran Church parsonage, Pierce. They farmed in the Pierce and Foster area. They retired from farming in 1978.
He worked in security at the Sunset Plaza Mall, Norfolk. Miller had been a resident of the Plainview Manor since May of 2008.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, lifetime member of the American Legion, Pierce, lifetime member of the Plainview VFW and member of Disabled American Veterans.
He served in the Army in World War II from Dec. 12, 1945, to Sept.20, 1946, stationed in the European theater. He received the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, World War II service medal and was in Military Police, 1st class.
He was preceded in death by parents and wife Beverly on June 11, 2005; two sisters, Ellen and Mildred; five brothers, Henry, Alfred, Siebolt, Reinhold and Harold; special friend Stuart.
Survivors include three sons, Douglas and wife Vickie Miller of Foster, Henry and wife Marcia Miller of Crofton, Richard “Andy” and wife Kathy Miller of Malcolm; two daughters, Deborah and husband Pat Cattell of Plainview, Dorothea Zern of Foster; 13 grandchildren; one sister, Emma Miller of Parker, Colo.; brother-in-law Don Ringenberg of Elwood; sister-in-law Evelyn Miller of Gothenburg.
Honorary casket bearers will be grandchildren.
Stonacek Memorial Chapel is in charge.
