Harold Blase, 85 - January 10, 2007
Harold L. Blase, 85, of Central City, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2006, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital at Central City.
Services were held on Wednesday, Jan. 3, 2007, at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Polk with the Rev. Kurt Letcher officiating. Burial was at the Immanuel Lutheran Church Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post No. 6.
Blase was born on June 10, 1921, near Hordville to Henry and Clara (Rochlitz) Blase. He was raised at Hordville and received his education at Immanuel Lutheran School.
He entered the United States Army on June 8, 1942, and served during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 17, 1945.
Blase was united in marriage to Shirley I. Thomas on Oct. 21, 1944, at El Paso, TX. The couple lived in East Peoria, IL, where he worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company.
In 1947, he and his wife moved to a farm in Nebraska, where he farmed for 25 years. He then worked for Chief in Grand Island and Bonnavilla in Aurora where he retired in 1985, though he continued to work for Platte Valley Popcorn for three years and Wal-Mart for seven years.
Blase was baptized on June 26, 1921, and confirmed on March 25, 1934, at Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as an elder.
He was a lifetime and charter member of the Hordville Lions Club and belonged to the American Legion Post No. 6 as well as sat on the Hordville Town Council and the Hordville Elevator Coop Board.
?Blase enjoyed the St. Louis Cardinals and listened to their games on the radio, according to family members. He also enjoyed life on the farm and raising four sons and a daughter.
?He was preceded in death by: his parents; a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Sherri Blase of Gothenburg; three sisters—Hilda Parker, Lydia Berges and Alice Blase; three brothers—Gilbert, Arnold and Victor Blase.
Survivors include: his wife, Shirley of Central City; a daughter, Sandy (Duane) DeMers of Hordville; three sons—Bob (Avis) Blase of Polk, Randy (Jan) Blase of Central City and Rod (Cindy) Blase of Hordville; 13 grandchildren—Mike (Jill) DeMers, Mark (Barb) DeMers, Scott (Tammi) DeMers, Sherri (Jerrad) Stroh, Wendy (Shawn) Bailey, Thomas (Noel) Blase, Jill (Joel) Loos, Terri Blase, Samantha Blase, B.J. Blase , Jenna Blase, Travis Blase and Justin Blase; and 15 great-grandchildren.
