Ruby Gerdes, 94 - February 14, 2007
Ruby E. Gerdes, 94, of Gothenburg, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2007, at Hilltop Estates of Gothenburg, after a lengthy illness.
Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Matthew Groenke officiating. Burial took place at the Grandview Cemetery near Gothenburg.
Gerdes was a lifetime resident of Gothenburg, born on July 14, 1912, near Gothenburg, to William and Tena (Ostendorf) Gerdes, the first of five children.
She attended the District 2 Rural School. After graduating from Gothenburg High School, she taught at District 2 North Willow Island School.
Gerdes was a graduate of Kearney State Teachers College in Kearney. After teaching in various rural schools, she taught at Gothenburg Elementary School until she retired. She also taught art for a number of years.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, William and Tena Gerdes; a brother, William Gerdes; sister, Norma Jean Gerdes.
?Survivors include: a sister, Dorothy Shadduck of Longmont, CO; a brother, Beryl Gerdes of Columbia, MO; four nephews—Bill (Linda) Shadduck of Longmont, Pastor Jim (Carol) Shadduck of Kenosha, WI, Dr. John (Virginia) Gerdes of Littleton, CO, and Beryl Gerdes Jr. of Grand Island; one niece, Jean (Bill) Lyons of Laramie, WY.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church, the family, the school or donor’s choice.
