Geraldine Slack, 90 - February 21, 2007
Services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Matthew Groenke and Lonna Grabenstein, Parish Ministry Associate, officiating. Burial was at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Slack was born at Hastings on Dec. 22, 1916, to Bert and Violet (Rothrock) VanMeter. She moved with her parents to Colorado.
At the age of 12, her parents and family had moved to Gothenburg where she attended school.
In 1933, she married Selwyn Slack. She later married the late William Slack, Jr., who preceded her in death on Aug. 20, 1982.
She was a member of the American Lutheran Church and a past member of the Spanneth Women’s Club. She was also a volunteer at the Lincoln County Historical Society at North Platte.
Slack enjoyed the outdoors and always had a garden and many beautiful flowers, according to family members.
?She was preceded in death by: her husband, William; a daughter, Mary Ann Slack; three brothers—William VanMeter, Victor VanMeter and Gerald VanMeter; a sister, Betty VanMeter.
?Survivors include: two sons—Larry Slack of Cozad and Bill (Betty) Slack of Brady; three daughters—Carol Slack and Evonne (Garry) Hicken, all of Gothenburg, and Beverly (Mike) Troxel of Sutherland; a sister, Darlene Gayman of Cozad; two brothers—Robert VanMeter of Aberdeen, SD, and Burdette VanMeter of DeSmit, SD; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg, 1512 Ave. G, and the Brady Rescue Unit, P.O. Box 31, Brady, NE 69123.
